Flight operations before the independence of Macedonia

Even before the declaration of independence in September 1991, PalAair began its scheduled services on June 3, 1991.

During the dissolution of Yugoslavia and the establishment of the independent Republic of Macedonia in the early 1990s, the airline PalAir Macedonian Airways was founded.

When the United Nations lifted sanctions against Yugoslavia in 1996, the Yugoslav national airline JAT Airways returned to the market and the popularity of the airline PalAir fell drastically as a result. Shortly afterwards, PalAir stopped all flights and stopped operating.

The investigation showed that the cause of the plane crash was the freezing of the plane's wings and a failure to spray against ice. There were 97 people on board, 83 of whom lost their lives.
